Upgraded autosamplers for ICP

TOP

ICP (Inductively Coupled Plasma) is the technique we use for metals in soil and water, some of our most frequently scheduled tests. Unattended operation is a key requirement for a busy lab and we have just upgraded our autosamplers to speed up sample introduction and to increase the number of samples we can run overnight.

This increased capacity will give us even more reliability with our already impressive turnaround times.

DID YOU KNOW?

Absolutely no result gets reported without an assessment of a specific Quality Control measure

TOP

Every analysis we perform has a related QC measure that needs to pass strict guidelines before we can accept the data and report your results to you. At least 5% of all the analysis we perform must be a QC measure. So for every 19 samples we analyse at least 1 must be a QC.

We use Schewardt charts with a Mean (expected value) line and 2 & 3 Standard Deviations from the Mean lines. Ideally all QC points will fall within the +/- 2 SD limits and your results can usually be reported when that happens. We do have to keep an eye out for any bias (too may points on one side of the Mean) or trend (rising or falling points) and perform an investigation before a decision is made to report your results. A similar investigation needs to be performed if a point falls between the 2 and 3 SD limits, and any point outside the 3 SD limits means we can't report your results and will need to repeat analysis of the associated samples.

A lot of time and effort goes into ensuring your results are reliable - and we report thousands of results every day. Here's an example QC chart covering the period between 18th July and 2nd November (1,1,1-trichloroethane in water):
